French Onion Poutine

Ingredients

  • 1 bag Cavendish Farms FlavourCrisp Crinkle Cut Fries
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tbsp fresh thyme leaves
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup Gruyère cheese, grated
  • 1 cup cheese curds

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 450°F.
  2. Spread Crinkle Cut Fries on a parchment-lined baking sheet and cook according to packaging instructions. 
  3. To prep, make the French onion gravy. In a large skillet, melt butter over low-medium heat. Add the sliced onions and a generous pinch of salt. Cook for 15 - 20 minutes, stirring every few minutes, until the onions are deeply caramelized but not burnt.
  4. Add the thyme leaves and flour to the caramelized onions. Stir to combine and cook for 1 minute.
  5. Slowly pour in the beef broth, stirring to combine. Simmer for 5 – 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened. Season with salt and pepper, to taste.
  6. Remove the cooked Crinkle Cut Fries from the oven and top with grated Gruyère cheese. Return to the oven for 3 – 5 minutes, until the cheese is melted.
  7. Top with cheese curds and generously spoon the French onion gravy over top before serving.
